  QUADS May 2009 Production - "Amy's View"

The May 09 production of 'Amy's View' was a great success and the committee would like to express their thanks to all who were involved in putting on this production or supported QUADS by coming to see the play.

I've not seen a newspaper review of Amy's View, if anyone has one, please let me know. Below is a link to the preview printed in the Derby Evening Telegraph before the first show:

Cast photos from the rehearsals of Amy's View can be seen on the Amy's View webpage.

QUADS Quiz/Social night, Thursday 30th July 2009, 8pm

There will be a QUADS-themed quiz social night on Thursday 30th July 2009 at 8pm, open to QUADS members, family and friends. This event will include a fish & chip supper, you must contact Debs beforehand (01332 553875) if you wish to join in with the fish & supper, to allow pre-ordering the food from George's. Please bring your own drinks. There will be a £2.50 charge on the door towards hall fees, prizes, etc. We hope to have another quiz later in the year at the Joiners Arms as a fundraiser, with entry open to the public, more details to follow.

Pub Meal, Shire Horse, Wyaston DE6 2DR, mid-August, 7.30pm for 8pm

Sheila Wood (phone: 01332 553982, email wooboo31@aol.com) is organising a pub meal which was planned for a mid-August Monday - unfortunately The Shire Horse do not do evening meals on a Monday, so we are going to have to re-think the date and get back to you on this.

QUADS Play Reading, Friday 11th September 2009, 8pm

On Friday 11th Sept at 8pm QUADS members are invited to a Play Reading in Quarndon Village Hall (Upper), to be followed by a bring and share American Supper. The play to be read is ‘Last Tango in Whitby’ by Mike Harding. Fancy dress (beachwear or ballroom dancing) is encouraged for this. The various parts to be read out will be chosen on the night. There is a £2.50 door charge to cover hall fees, etc.

In early December, exact date to be decided, ‘Comfort & Joy’ has been suggested for a play reading.

QUADS November 2009 shows

Unfortunately the number of male actors who came forward at the audition was insufficient to stage the first choice of play ('Play On'). Happily, with a strong turnout from the female side of the society, we are able to cast a pair of comedies over two weeks in November, a Double Bill like 2008 but this time on the main stage rather than in the round. The comedies are 'Pastimes' and 'Curtain Up!', both firm favourites with community theatre groups. A little more detail about these shows can be found on the Current Productions webpage. As with the previous Double Bill, tickets will be £6 for either show, or a combined ticket for both shows for just £10.

Due to hall availability, we have had to juggle a little on the dates for the second week. The show dates are:

Wed 18th/Thurs 19th/Fri 20th/Sat 21st November 2009
Mon 23rd/Wed 25th/Thurs 26th/Sat 28th November 2009

It is not yet decided which show is on which night. The first rehearsal will be Thursday 3rd September from 8 until 10pm in the lower village hall. This will be preceded by a production meeting from 7 until 8pm at the same venue.

Sunday technical rehearsals will be 1st, 8th and 15th November, with a dress rehearsal on Monday 16th November at 7.30pm. The regular Tuesday and Thursday rehearsals will be longer than usual, from 7 until 10pm with the intention to do 1.5 hours for each play on each night. The order will be regularly swapped over so that one cast doesn't get all the late nights.

The current list of hall bookings for autumn rehearsals and shows is here (Excel document)

Team Events/QUADS Cabaret Night, Saturday 12th December

I don't have any more details for this, other than the date above and that it is in the upper village hall, doubtless we will fill you in in a later newsletter (or speak to Tony Glover directly who is our Team Events contact), but for now please keep the date free in your diary, either to come along and watch or perform on stage yourself...

See you soon!
