The Opera Dudes – “A Life of Organised Croon”

Friday 18th January 2008, Quarndon Village Hall, 8pm

Tim Lole and Neil Allen combine their musical and vocal pedigrees with great humour and charm. As well as their terrific singing, the show includes their life stories, funny tales, a few surprise impersonations, a concert piano solo and a silly piano duet in the style of Morecambe and Wise!

There's a great variety of music from Puccini to Elvis Presley and Dean Martin via Rachmaninov and Donald Duck!  A wonderful evening of "classical cabaret" which will have you in stitches!

I’m not really into opera but these guys were great!

"The Delicious Revenge of Princess Ruby Slippers"
Oxfordshire Touring Theatre Company
Friday 25th January 2008, Quarndon Church Hall,
6pm (note early start)

Following the warm reception to their first children’s show last year, Quarndon Live & Local have booked another barnstorming family event.  The OTTC are firm Live & Local favourites, with a great reputation for energetic, belly laugh musical drama appealing to all ages.  “Ruby Slippers” is perfect for all the family - delightful characters, inventive stagework, lovely music, plenty of laughs and a gentle emotional pull to the story that will stay with you.

“Take three kids (age 5, 6 and 7), add one harassed mum, a handful of favourite fairytale characters, mix with a large dressing up box and leave for five frenetic fun-filled minutes… Result?  A topsy-turvy, helter skelter story of sibling rivalry and parental desperation in a world of mixed up make believe where the Fairy Godmother’s hot and bothered and the Wicked Witch is itching to make boy pie!”

With a surprise round every corner and a twist in every tale, this show is guaranteed to tickle the ribs of children, parents - and grandparents!  (P.S. the story features lots of dressing up, so children are welcome to come in fancy dress and help make the cast feel at home!)

Tickets are £6 adults, £4 children. Note family friendly 6pm start time! Contact Sophie and Rob Snell, 71 Burley Lane, Quarndon, DE22 5JR. Phone (01332) 840007 or email info@quarndonquads.co.uk.

The Flying Donkeys - "Heart of England" Tour
Saturday 8th March 2008, 8pm

The “Flying Donkeys” are a group of professional storytellers based in Derby who regularly entertain adults with their tales of cunning, curses, dark mysteries and misbegettings.  This special regional tour has been funded by the Arts Council to bring to life tales and legends drawn from Derbyshire and the Midlands, with a few modern twists and turns.  Featuring expert tellers Helen Frances, Roy Dyson and special guest Simon Heywood (known for his exuberant and hilarious roller-coaster renditions of the “Jack” tales), this promises to be a very special event,a fascinating journey into the depths of Derbyshire folklore.

We are not running a bar this time, but the ticket price includes tea / coffee and home made cakes and you are welcome to bring a bottle / snacks to enjoy at your table.  Any profits will go to support QUADS.  Tickets £5 (or £4 for children over 14).  Performance starts at 8pm, doors open 7.15pm. Tickets: Sophie and Rob Snell, 71 Burley Lane, Quarndon, DE22 5JR. Phone (01332) 840007 or email info@quarndonquads.co.uk.

QUADS/TEQ Christmas Cabaret Night

This was a Team Events - Quarndon (TEQ) event in support of QUADS, a "Good Old Days" music hall style show, and was a great success. QUADS members and friends from Quarndon and beyond performed turns, some musical, some comical with a pinch of drama thrown in for good measure.

A huge variety this year as you can see from the pictures above from just a few of the 20-odd performances. Acts included (from top left) the always highly amusing stand-up from QUAD's Phil Buckle, Mike Osbourne as excellent MC and crooner, Paul Wiggins on tap and song, Bollywood dance spectacular from Satwant, Joyce Grenfell-style comic verse from Wenda, the QUADS spooky graveyard comedy sketch devised/narrated by local storyteller Sophie Snell (acting/improv by Debs, Jim and Max) and Christmas-themed recitation from QUADS member Ruth Williams.

Many thanks to David Dilks and Tony Glover for making the whole event possible and so enjoyable!

Best Wishes,

Rob Snell
