QUADS meal out, Talbot Hotel, Belper Friday 20th August, 7.30pm

Just a quick reminder that QUADS final event of the summer programme is a meal out at The Talbot in Belper on Friday 20th, 7.30pm for 8 o'clock start. It's an Italian restaurant. Several people have already signed up and if you would like to come, please let Debs know ASAP. We have to pre-order so Debs will be emailing out the menu in advance. If you want to come, please email or phone Debs deborahsimpson@voicetheunion.org.uk or 01332 553875 (home) 07890 733084 (mobile). Look forward to seeing you there!

QUADS at Discovering Theatre in Derby
The Theatre Store, 18th September 2010

"Discovering Theatre in Derby" is an exciting series of events in an empty shop in Derby: it will all take place at 48 St. Peters Street, Derby, (what used to be La Senza), and is now given the name The Theatre Store.

As part of this event, QUADS will be running an open rehearsal at the Theatre Store on Saturday 18th September, 12 noon to 3pm. Jan will be doing a read-through with some members of the November cast and any other QUADS members who would like to help - interested members of the public can drop in and read one of the parts.

There will also be a QUADS display board in the shop throughout the event (12th to 30th September), displaying photos from previous shows and flyers/booking information for our next show

Full and up-to-date details of all the events (including the QUADS one) are at www.theatrestore.org.uk, a draft of the events planned so far is at the bottom of this newsletter.

One important aspect is that it is an excellent source of FREE training: a number of the local professional groups are putting on free masterclasses/workshops (see programme below) so why not take advantage of this - or introduce more people to our fascinating hobby.

Auditions for November 2010 production

The auditions for the Autumn show were held last Wednesday in the Joiners Arms with a good turnout of capable actors, plus Jan has some names of available people who weren’t able to make it on the night. Jan is now busily trying to match up the available actors to one of several different plays we could do – we’ll let you know as soon as the play and cast are chosen.

Play Reading in the Park, Darley Park

The variable weather held out long enough for a dozen of us to enjoy a play reading and an impromptu picnic in Darley Park last Saturday. Rob brought along some scripts for Slaughterhouse by Harold Robbins, a murder mystery comedy thriller featuring the wonderfully-named aging horror film actor Romney Marsh. Various people read parts who hadn’t done it before (including me) and enjoyed it immensely. Hopefully we’ll have another play reading closer to Christmas (probably indoors…)

QUADS Book Fair Fruit/Veg boxes required

I forgot to say in the last newsletter, that as well as paperbacks and children’s books, we need to collect together some fruit/veg boxes (shallow wooden trays) to display the books for sale with the spines showing. If you see any going spare in your local shop, please collect and save for us, thanks.
